In the footsteps of the Romans

One of the oldest spas in Germany

Bad Gögging is undoubtedly one of the oldest spa towns in Germany. Numerous finds already point to a settlement by the Celts with their mysterious spring cult, for whom the bubbling Bad Gögging sulphur springs were sacred.

At the beginning of the second century, the Roman Emperor Trojanus presented his men with a sulphur water thermal bath complex, which was one of the largest Roman state baths north of the Alps, comparable to the thermal baths in Baden-Baden and Wiesbaden.

Today’s spa and vacation guests in Bad Gögging find a place that at first glance no longer has anything Roman about it in the usual sense – apart from the names of the springs, various streets and the proud names of the spa and guest houses.

Bad Gögging’s natural resources alone make the town a special feature in the German spa landscape: highly concentrated sulphur springs, its own natural moor and valuable mineral thermal water form the basis of the Bad Gögging spa.
