The Hallertau is almost centrally located in the heart of Bavaria – and this is also where one of the most important raw materials for the popular Bavarian beer is produced, as the Hallertau is the largest contiguous hop-growing region in the world.
Hops have been planted in the region since the 8th century. However, the sandy and nutrient-rich soils are also highly valued by another plant: the cultivation of asparagus in the Hallertau is also of great importance. Abensberg and Schrobenhausen in particular are known for their first-class and tasty asparagus.
Discover the diversity of the Hallertau on a hike through the impressive hop gardens.
